Foreign caller asking about solar energy. Hung up shortly after I answered.

Ages before a voice spoke. Told me he was from. Utilities company. So I hung up. A time waster.

Did not recognise this number. Silent call. I answered with 'Hello' after about 4 seconds; Then line cut off. My recent reading of online articles on good practice on how to respond to a unrecognised number is to not be too hasty to respond (me !!!) .... Rather to stay completely silent and let them make the first move. It appears that some scammers, by hearing voice can use specialised software to determine not just your gender, but also your age, social class and other factors such that this information can be sold on to other 'no gooders !" So the moral is to not to be too quick to want to speak / answer ...... Some day I'll get it right and say nothing. I hope this information will help someone else to not be too trusting when about to answer an unrecognised call.
